Census Update: Door-To-Door Follow-up Has Begun

There is Still Time to Self-Respond So Complete Your Census Now

The U.S. Census Bureau recently amended its timeline to end door to door outreach and the option to self-respond from October 31, 2020 to September 30, 2020. Residents will now have less than 60 days to complete their Census form online, by phone or via mail. For residents that have not responded, a Census taker will follow up at the door to obtain responses.

The current self-response rate for Prince George’s County is 65%.  Beat the knock at the door by completing your Census now and help the county reach an 85% self-response rate by September 30, 2020.

The Census Bureau is currently hiring over 30 Census Field Supervisors, 70% of whom have language skills, as well as over 800 Enumerators in Prince George’s County, with 85% having language skills. This is good news given the newly amended field operations end date which is now September 30, 2020.  See the Statement from U.S. Census Bureau Director Dillingham for more information regarding the revised operations schedule.

The U.S. Census Bureau Self-Response Rankings tracks how well we are doing on the Census at a national level.

The Washington Metropolitan Council of Governments (COG) sent a letter of support to the U.S. Senate urging them to include language in the next COVID-19 Relief Package to extend the statutory deadline of the 2020 Census by four months.
