Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery Closed / Cementerio de Veteranos Cerrado

The State has closed all veterans cemeteries to visitors until further notice, including the one in our County.


Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYEP) Canceled

Unfortunately, the 2020 Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYEP) has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our SYEP team is working hard to find other avenues of opportunity for our young people this summer.

PGCPS Meal Sites Update

Supper will now be provided as part of the PGCPS meal sites, replacing the snack previously offered. Students can now receive breakfast, lunch and dinner through these sites. Meal distribution days are still Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and new sites will open starting Monday, May 11.

Governor’s Press Conference

Governor Hogan held a press conference on May 7. Although he emphasized that the stay-at-home order remains in effect, all State parks and beaches in Maryland are now open for exercise and fresh air, and a few outdoor activities can resume. Dr. Karen Salmon, the State Superintendent of Schools, announced that schools will remain closed (distance-learning remains in effect) for the rest of this school year. Gatherings of 10 or more individuals are still prohibited, residents need to practice social distancing outside of their homes, and face coverings are still required in all stores and on public transportation.

May 7 Tele-Town Hall

County Executive Alsobrooks will host a Tele-Town Hall on Thursday, May 7 at 6:30 PM to give an update of the Government’s COVID-19 response. Register or submit your questions or concerns here. If you do not want to listen over the phone, you can tune into CTV Channel 76 (Verizon Fios 42) at 6:30 PM on May 7 to listen to the live broadcast of the Tele-Town Hall.

If you register you will get a call on Wednesday reminding you about the call and then will receive the call to join the Tele-Town Hall when it begins at 6:30 PM on Thursday.

 May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we are holding a series of webinars about mental health on each Thursday of the month.


Update from Verizon

Verizon announced that they are extending their commitment to keep customers connected, including both residential and small business customers. They will not disconnect anyone for inability to pay and are waiving late fees through June 30.
