Chief Elliott W. Gibson, Sr.

Chief Elliott W. Gibson, Sr. was selected by the Mayor and Town Council, as the Chief of Police. He comes to the Town of Edmonston, after serving in law enforcement and public safety, over 40 years.

The Chief began his career in law enforcement with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), in Washington, D.C. in the mid 1970s. During his career, Chief Gibson worked as a patrol officer, criminal investigator, evidence technician, patrol sergeant, Supervisory Police Training Instructor, Detective Lieutenant and Assistant Police Commander / Captain. He received numerous awards and commendations for his work in the community.  The Community Policing Initiative was a key component, during his tenure as a Senior Police Administrator.

After his retirement from the MPD, in 2000, Chief Gibson was hired as the Director of Training and Development, with Securitas Security Services. He was instrumental in developing training programs and delivering training to over 3000 security officers and managers, in five (5) states.

Chief Gibson also served as Vice President of a large private security company and worked as a Senior Federal Government Contractor with the Department of Defense (DOD), managing over 700 armed officers at 50 different locations. Later, he would become the Director of Security and Public Safety for a large hospital system in Baltimore, Maryland. There, he managed 75 uniformed police and security officers.

In 2014, Elliott Gibson was sworn in as the Chief of Police, in the City of District Heights, Maryland. The Chief managed the activities of 15 Police and Code Enforcement Officers. For over 5 ½ years, the Chief managed numerous community outreach programs, and continued to promote positive interactions between the police and the community we serve.

Later, the Chief would become the Senior Manager of a large private security company, in Maryland, responsible for providing physical security for numerous Maryland Court buildings and military installations, providing background investigations for the State of Maryland, as well as writing Technical Proposals for Government Security Contracts.

Chief Gibson studied Criminal Justice at the University of the District of Columbia and the University of Phoenix. He graduated #1 in his Police Academy class. He attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia, the MPDC Drug Enforcement School, the Community Policing Management Seminar at Johns Hopkins University, Crime Scene Investigators School, Police Instructor Development School, and was an Adjunct Instructor at Johns Hopkins University, teaching Business 101. He is a Certified Incident Manager through FEMA.

Chief Gibson is a member of the Prince George’s County Police Chief’s Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the FOP, and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He has also served as the security consultant to the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), as well as the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) for over 15 years.

Chief Gibson is married, has three (3) adult children and resides in the Upper Marlboro section of Prince George’s County, Maryland.
