Junior Mayor

In 2023, we introduced the Junior Mayor contest, empowering students from grades 6th through 12th grade to participate in local government. This title allows them to understand the responsibilities of an elected leader and gain insight into what it takes to run a town’s day-to-day administration, a Junior Mayor also has the unique opportunity to focus on a cause or program that benefits the community.

Elizabeth M. was selected as the first Junior Mayor of Edmonston. In Elizabeth’s essay, she shares how she is family-oriented and considerate of the feelings of others while maintaining a logical perspective in problem-solving situations. Elizabeth also shared the following “As the Junior Mayor, I want to work for the community and improve Edmonston to become a safe, and greener town.

Each Junior Mayor serves a one-year term, with a new appointee revealed during our Edmonston Day Parade and Festival. Applications for the Junior Mayor contest open every spring. Don’t miss the opportunity to lead our town forward! Check back here for details.
